MIMA Student Scholarship Opportunities

The Jarrid Grams Memorial Scholarship and Robin Carpenter Memorial Scholarship honors two founding MIMA members who epitomized the MIMA mission to connect and inspire. They provide undergraduate and graduate students of all majors pursuing careers in business, marketing, technology, communications and math with the opportunity to complete a relevant business case study and a chance to win $1,000 to put toward academic studies.

Jarrid Grams Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Overview

The Jarrid Grams Memorial Scholarship provides undergraduate students (freshman-seniors; seniors heading into grad school, please apply for graduate scholarship) of all majors pursuing careers in business, marketing, technology, communications and math with the opportunity to flex their academic muscle and showcase real world experience by completing a relevant business case study.

The scholarship will initially be judged by a panel of MIMA members. Semi-finalists will be chosen and asked to present to the MIMA Board during the last week of May. Video conference will be made available for students unable to attend the board meeting in-person. The scholarship winner will be announced during a special reception where students and professionals will celebrate the scholarship entries and winner.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a student member of MIMA
  • Provide proof of academic undergraduate enrollment
  • Use scholarship funds for educational expenses

 

Case Study Challenge

MSP Eco-Cabbie, a start-up company, is launching a new service to compete with Uber and Lyft by providing eco-friendly car services for Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area customers. The company prides itself on providing a hybrid or electric vehicle to drivers on a lease to own basis, and seeking to build a business model to become an employee-owned company complete with full benefits and long-term employment options. For customers, an important focus is to provide a unique experience by using eco-friendly vehicles, ensuring prompt arrival and departure times, and safely getting customers to where they want to go. An additional benefit of taking Eco-Cabbie is that for each rideshare, they donate 1% of the fare to nonprofit charity, Ecotrust.

The challenge is to help MSP Eco-Cabbie launch their new business with an integrated marketing approach that is primarily digitally focused. The company plans to use social media to raise brand awareness and drive potential customers to download the app and begin using their service. Your help is needed to develop an integrated marketing plan with a total budget of $50k that includes the following:

  • Main brand and marketing message
  • Marketing campaign tactics
  • How the campaign will be measured as a successful launch

Step 2: Please submit an integrated marketing plan by 11:59 pm on April 30, 2017 to scholarship@mima.org with the scholarship name as the subject line. Campaigns may be submitted via Word, PowerPoint, Video, or any other medium you find applicable to your case study. Submissions will be judged by the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Campaigns should be actionable for a start-up business
  • Appropriate target audience
  • Demonstration of strong digital marketing tactics
  • Note: submissions will not be judged based on time or page length. However, we encourage participants to refrain from submitting anything more than 5 pages, with an optional appendix, or 20 minutes long.

The Robin Carpenter Memorial Scholarship provides graduate/professional-level students of all majors advancing careers in business, marketing, technology, communications and math with the opportunity to flex their academic muscle and showcase real world experience by completing a relevant business case study.
